The main accused in Haldwani mob unrest on February 8 is eluding Uttarakhand Police even as the latter is patting its back with the arrest of 42 persons allegedly involved in the violence leading to four deaths.

Abdul Malik, considered to be the main accused of Banbhulpura violence, as claimed by the police, and his son have remained elusive despite repeated raids carried by the cops acorss within the state and outside. Uttarakhand Police is clueless about his whereabouts.

Unable to trace Malik and his son Abdul Moid, the Nainital Police on Thursday issued look out notice again them. Father and son duo has already been indicted and booked for inciting violence, rioting, attacking police and under other relevant charges.

Police first pronounced Abdul Malik as the main accused 3-4 days back and then issued look out notice against him and his son. This despite repeated attempts by several police teams working within the state and other parts of the country to hunt down the accused.

According to the Nainital district officials police teams have been sent to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana and other states where malik and his son are likely to hiding. Teams have conducted several raids in these states but they remained empty handed.

Nainital SSP Prahlad Meena informed that besides look out notice, security forces along Nepal borders in Uttarakhand have also been sounded alert as Malik is likely to sneak into other side of the border. Apart from Malik and his son, the Uttarakhand Police is looking for some other accused absconding from the day of violence.

Meanwhile Police have arrested 42 persons accused of Banbhulpura mob attack and inciting violence when an anti-encroachment team of Haldwani Municipal Corporation had gone to erase an illegally built madarsa and other structures at Malik-ka-Bagicha government land.

The mob attacked and injured more than 250 policemen and burnt down Banbhulpura police station on February 8 leading to complete break down of law and order in the town. Curfew was imposed in entire town for two days. Besides state police and PAC four companies of CRPF sent by the central government are still deployed in the town.
